The Second World War began in 1939 which ended in 1945. It was the deadliest war in history and over 70 million people died in this war. The war involved many countries. The main powers were the Allies and the Axis. The Allies included the UK, the USA, the Soviet Union, China, and others, while the Axis was led by Germany, Italy, and Japan.
Reason of this war :
The war started when Germany invaded Poland. Britain and France then declared war on Germany. Adolf Hitler was the leader of Nazi Germany. He wanted more land for Germany yet also to wipe out the Jews. This led to the Holocaust. As a result millions of Jews were killed in concentration camps.
Why German failed to defend:
In 1940, Germany invaded France and France quickly fell. Britain stood alone in Western Europe. The Battle of Britain took place in the skies. Meanwhile British pilots defended their country bravely. Germany failed to defeat them. In addition, Hitler attacked the Soviet Union in 1994. It was a huge mistake because the Soviet army fought back hard. Only because of the winter was harsh, German forces began to suffer.
The reason of Italy surrendered:
Meanwhile, Japan attacked Pearl Harbor in 1941. The United States then entered the war. This changed everything. As a result Allies became stronger and Battles took place in Europe, Africa, and Asia. The war spread to the seas and skies after that in 1943, Italy surrendered. However German forces kept fighting.
D-Day :
In 1944, the Allies landed in Normandy, France. This was called D-Day. It was the start of the end for Nazi Germany. The Allies pushed Germany back. In 1945, Soviet troops reached Berlin. Hitler killed himself. Germany surrendered in May 1945.
When the war ended :
The war in Asia continued. Japan refused to give up. The USA dropped two atomic bombs. One on Hiroshima. One on Nagasaki. Hundreds of thousands died. Japan then surrendered. The war finally ended in September 1945.
